Dive trip to Anglesey - 1st - 4th May 2026<\/span><\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Top Cat was prepped in the week before Phil towed her to Anglesey on\u00a0<\/span>Friday evening after work. A slow journey due to the volume of traffic<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>

Saturday<\/h4>

We met at 9am at the slip in Holyhead. This was to be Ivor\u2019s first sea dive\u00a0<\/span>and Lois\u2019s first boat dive. Both were diving with instructors. It was also\u00a0<\/span>the first time we deployed the BRUV (Baited Remote Underwater Video.)\u00a0<\/span>This is part of ECSAC\u2019s contribution to BSAC\u2019s Marine Champions\u2019\u00a0<\/span>project. It was put over the side on the way out to the first dive site.\u00a0 The\u00a0<\/span>plan was to retrieve it following the second dive.\u00a0<\/span>The Flint Wreck Area. Tim & Lois kitted up first followed by Ivor & Loz.\u00a0<\/span>The water temperature was 10C and the viz 2metres. Best finds were Cat\u00a0<\/span>Shark, Common Lobster and a nudibranch. Phil & I chose not to dive as\u00a0<\/span>we needed to get back to the slip so that the others could change\u00a0<\/span>cylinders.<\/span><\/p>

North Stack Cliffs was the afternoon dive site. Both buddy pairs\u00a0<\/span>completed their second dives successfully. At this point Top Cat\u2019s engine\u00a0<\/span>failed. Luckily for us a passing fishing RHIB stopped and towed us back\u00a0<\/span>to the Sailing Club slip. Steve and Helen having completed their shore\u00a0<\/span>dives at Newry Beach, brought the trailer from the allotment slip and\u00a0<\/span>recovered Top Cat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We now had another problem. The BRUV was still on the seabed.\u00a0<\/span>Solution: Phil towed Top Cat back to Macclesfield and returned to\u00a0<\/span>Anglesey with Cheshire Cat.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Sunday<\/span><\/h4>

Ivor & Loz completed 2 shore dives from Newry beach. Phil, Tim and I\u00a0<\/span>went out with Cheshire Cat to see if the buoys were on the surface on a<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>high-water slack. No such luck. We could see the lines on the plotter. We<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>decided to look at a new dive site near North Stack whilst we were out.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We returned to the slip, went for a quick co<\/span>ff<\/span><\/span>ee and waited for low water.\u00a0<\/span>Finally, at 4pm, back out and Hey Presto, sighs of relief and smiley faces<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>all-round, the buoys were up and on the surface. The BRUV was retrieved<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and we managed to get back in time to recover Cheshire Cat before the<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>slip dried out.<\/span><\/p><\/div>

Monday<\/h4>

We took Cheshire Cat back to the club, flushed the engine and washed<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>both boats.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Thanks to Steve and Helen, for their help. Well done to Lois and Ivor.\u00a0<\/span>Thanks to instructors Loz and Tim. Phil deserves a medal for going above<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and beyond. We are heading to the Shetlands for a well-earned rest<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>aboard The Clasina. Hopefully the weather will allow us to get up to<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Muckle Flugga and around to the East coast. The diving, as always will<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>be amazing.<\/span><\/p><\/div>
