Everyone, as always, loved the accommodation. It has everything, a huge lounge overlooking the sound of Mull, a fully fitted kitchen with a dishwasher, microwave and a huge stove. 4 bathrooms, 2 of which were en-suite, conservatory, drying room with underfloor heating and best of all for the divers our very own pier.

This was the fourth time that we had chosen to dive with Malcolm and Dave from Lochaline Boat Charters. The reasons: the boat is well laid out with plenty of room to kit up; an on board compressor, loo, galley kitchen, warm cabin and the all-important dive lift means that the diving is safe and enjoyable. Dave’s extensive knowledge means perfect slack and dive briefings.

Day one was a leisurely stroll to the end of the pier .We did our check out dive on the Rondo and then headed up The Sound to Sgeirean Mor. What a brilliant day’s diving. Colour by the bucketful.

Day 2 was a skipper and divers dream—calm seas, sun, spectacular scenery including a Minke whale We steamed out to Coll to dive The Tapti and then on to Muck to dive Windmill Wall. Our skipper who we affectionately call Steaming Dave lived up to his well-deserved reputation for taking divers to The Sound and beyond.

Day 3 . The classic wreck of The Shuna did not disappoint—a riot of colour, plastered with life, on perfect slack. The day then became one of my favourites as we dived the Risga Pinnacle in Loch Sunart. This is a must if you like colour –the walls were covered with Plumose Anemones, Jewel Anemones, Devonshire Cup Coral, Northern Sea Fan, Red Fingers, Celtic Feather Stars: squatties were in every crevice. Mark as always spotted every nudibranc. If I sound envious, it is because I am.

Day 4; Ardmore Point and then a steam up Loch Sunart to the flame shell beds. How much fun can you have on a dive—these critters are a must to see.

Day 5.Auliston Wall with its stunning Red Fingers and then the classic wreck of the Hispania, a favourite which never disappoints.

Day 6: The Hispania because it is a firm favourite and then Calve island to finish a fantastic week.

Great company — we shall be back—same house, same boat, same skipper.

We arrived at Salen Pier House late on Saturday afternoon.
