{"id":770,"date":"2016-06-20T21:26:53","date_gmt":"2016-06-20T20:26:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ecsac.org.uk\/?p=770"},"modified":"2017-10-18T18:03:59","modified_gmt":"2017-10-18T17:03:59","slug":"mevagh-dive-centre-carrigart-donegal-11-17th-june-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ecsac.org.uk\/?p=770","title":{"rendered":"Mevagh Dive Centre, Carrigart, Donegal. 11-17th June 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecsac.org.uk\/updates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Snappy-Shell-Thing.gif\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2353 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ecsac.org.uk\/updates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/Snappy-Shell-Thing-300x149.gif\" alt=\"\" height=\"149\" width=\"300\"><\/a>Eleven divers and four non divers arrived at Mevagh Dive Centre on Saturday 11<sup>th<\/sup> June 2016 having either taken the overnight ferry into Belfast or the super ferry into Dublin.<\/p>\n<p>The drive to the west coast was problem free, punctuated by every shade of green and stunning views.&nbsp; The drive over the hills and down towards the Atlantic coast with its cliffs, dunes and pristine sandy beaches was particularly beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>For the next six days we started with a leisurely 8.30am cooked breakfast. Julie Karen, Janice and Catherine, as non-divers, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ecsac.org.uk\/?attachment_id=771\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-771\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-771 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ecsac.org.uk\/updates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/1-300x162.png\" alt=\"1\" height=\"162\" width=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ecsac.org.uk\/updates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/1-300x162.png 300w, https:\/\/www.ecsac.org.uk\/updates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/1.png 420w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>toured the local area and even booked our evening meals at various restaurants on route.<\/p>\n<p>Our boat, Laura Dean was a brand new catamaran designed with tech divers in mind&#8212;- acres of space for kitting up and moving about, plus storage, plus a dive lift. Our skipper Donald was superb. His knowledge and expertise meant our diving was both safe and enjoyable.<\/p>\n<p>The weather at the beginning of the trip with light winds and calm seas enabled us to dive the walls, caves and boulders fields of Toraigh Island and complete two dives on the historic wreck of The Laurentic, which lies in 40m at the entrance to Loch Swilly.<\/p>\n<p>Northerly winds and Atlantic swell meant the final dives of the trip were in the calmer waters of Mulroy Bay and Drongawn Lough. The marine life was both colourful, abundant and diverse, from the tiniest of nudibrancs to huge lobsters, ling and congers.
