Menai Boat Run - 23rd March 2025

Dave and Clemmie organised the East Cheshire contingent to take part in the annual Menai Boat run this year.

They had a very early start with their alarm sounding at 4.30am in order to tow Top Cat to Y Felinhali and meet the rest of us.  We all had our designated jobs and quickly got Top Cat ready for launching.

Doug was at the helm on the journey to Beaumaris.  Sadly, due to the overcast conditions we couldn’t go around Puffin Island so we had longer to enjoy our break and fish & chips at Beaumaris. After watching the cheque presentation to the RNLI, the lifeboat was launched & led all the dive RHIBS  back to Y Felinheli. Dave was at the helm on the return journey and we all enjoyed the ride and the views.

The Menai Boat Run is an annual event which East Cheshire Sub Aqua Club (ECSAC) started many years ago as an early season shakedown with a few local BSAC clubs. Today, the event draws BSAC clubs from all over for a round trip passage, in company, down the Menai Strait with fish-and-chips in Beaumaris, and to raise funds for the wonderful work of the men and women of the RNLI. Currently run by Chester Sub-Aqua Club, this year’s event raised the terrific sum of £1,350.

A huge thank you to everyone from ECSAC who pitched in: Doug, Ruth, Nikki, Paul, Sue, Alison, and Loz and especially to Dave & Clemmie for organising and towing the boat.  Top Cat is ready to go!
