Anglesey Snorkel Trip 31st July-2nd August 2026
On Friday 31 st July Sue, Dave L, Loz & I (plus doggy companions Rosie & Skye) made our way to our campsite at Valley of the Rocks, next to Anglesey Outdoors and set up camp. It was a beautiful evening and we went to the Paddler’s Return next door for burgers and
beers and sat outside in the sunshine, with the dogs.
Our plans for a snorkel site on Saturday were influenced by the wind direction and so we arranged to meet Rob at Treath Bychan and then snorkel on the incoming tide. As this is a very busy launch site we chose to snorkel over the rocks on the right side of the beach.
Dave provided an excellent dog sitting service and shore cover while Rob, Sue, Loz & I spent about an hour snorkelling. The visibility was quite good and there were lots of brown seaweeds covering the rocks and several shoals of sand eels. Rob saved the day by
managing to locate Loz’s fin which had become unclipped!!
After our snorkel, we got changed and enjoyed pizza on the beach and then took the dogs for a walk along the coastal path.
Due to the prolonged hot weather, BBQs were not allowed and so we had to change our plans for the Saturday evening. Loz, Rob and I met up with the diving group for a very nice meal at the Harbourside Bistro, Newry Beach, Holyhead, while Dave & Sue stayed at the campsite with the dogs. Later, the campers then sat around our camp table and drank beers & chatted until it went dark.
On Sunday, the wind had dropped and the direction was favourable and so we met up at Porth Tyn Tywyn. We found a sheltered area and went in to the water to snorkel around the rocks. The visibility was amazing and there was so much life on and around the rocks. We saw several shore crabs and small Ballen wrasse plus beadlet anemones, large limpets and top shells on the rocks. This was a really lovely snorkel spot, especially on a sunny day.
