What do we do?

This section of the club exists to teach young and old how to safely enjoy the sport of snorkelling, and to introduce you to the fantastic world under the sea.

Courses

The club training is based on progressing through a series of BSAC courses.

We have a number of dedicated Snorkel Instructors including our latest instructor, Jo Watson, who was featured in Scuba magazine!

Theory lectures are given to complement practical sessions in the pool (much of this is similar to topics covered in Science at school). Advancement occurs at your own pace, through several grades:

  • Basic Snorkel Diver
  • Snorkel Diver
  • Ocean Snorkel Diver
  • Advanced Ocean Snorkel Diver
  • Snorkel Dive Marshall

Basic training is also given in first-aid, rescue and resuscitation techniques as part of the Snorkel lifesaver award.

There are also opportunities to train as Instructors and Assistant Instructors. We run Assistant Instructor courses within the branch and facilitate attendance at regional instructor courses.

Trips

snorkel3During the summer months, the club organises day trips so that open water skills can be taught and tested.
Recent trips have included Anglesey and Coniston Water and Devil’s Bridge which were all excellent days out.

Equipment

snorkel1The club will provide you with basic equipment (mask, snorkel, fins) for your first few sessions. Once you have settled in, you will be expected to obtain your own equipment. Before purchasing any equipment, it is recommended that you talk to any of the instructors for advice. You will also learn the basics of equipment choice and maintenance early in your training.
