Kinlochbervie - 27th July - 2nd August 2025

An exciting if long journey lay ahead of us to get to KLB, some of us stopped over in Perth on the Saturday night to break the long journey up and arrived feeling ready to get settled into the lovely lodge house in Sheigra.

Once settled in, a reccy over to the harbour to see where we would be setting up on Wildcat for the week proved a fruitful mission, easy access via the pontoon and only having to carry on 1 cylinder as filled when having surface interval for the week was a luxurious plus.

We began our week arriving to load our kit nice and early on Monday and it was a pleasant start to the week to be relaxed and set it all up. The weather was slightly against us so we couldn’t head out of the loch and dived instead inside it on 2 amazing walls covered in life, viz being 12m at least and the marine life was varying and healthy.

The weather improved and for the next 2 days we set out north into the sea and dived into amazing waters at least 15m viz, it was wonderful to be on the surface and looking down at the sea bed before even descending, with diverse life including many different coloured sun stars, pin cushion starfish, and brittlestars, wrasse, flatfish, dahlia & jewel anemones in abundance and some horsemen anemones, nudibranchs galore and everywhere we looked it was full of juvenile fish and sand eels as well as shoals of pollock.

On Thursday the weather turned again so we had to turn back and had another dive in the loch, this was a quieter dive with a lovely gentle nosy in crevices to find abundant long clawed lobsters, crabs, brittlestars floating to reattach themselves and nudibranchs in the kelp leaves.

Friday dawned brighter and we were able to go back out, and be awarded with amazing 15m viz and such an array of life, even saw a couple of cat sharks that had every intention of being photographed by staying so still.

An amazing week with us all taking turns to cook the evening meals made it easy to refuel at the end of each day, beautiful scenery and pleasant walks to enjoy and the cafe in the harbour managed to offer posh coffees and I believe some delicious cakes. Not having wifi/mobile data was a shock to us all at first but surprisingly easy to manage after a day or so – we could turn it back on in the morning on the way in and after the dive in the cafe in the harbour, so managed a quick chat with loved ones that we were ok.
