TRIP REPORT – Anglesey Dive and Snorkelling Weekend – May Bank Holiday

Hi JWC tours here 😎 reporting on our bank holiday weekend. Feed back from participants indicate everybody seemed to have a good time. The weather was changeable, sun, wind and rain. Saturday was perfect and went to plan with two ribs going out of Trearddur heading for the wreck ‘Missouri’ close to Porth Dafarch Bay. 12m average depths with 8/10 metre viz, boilers, plates, decking, lobster, loads of sea hare, cat shark, spider crab, crab, various fish species. Water temperature was averaging 12 degrees. We did two dives on this wreck as its a big site. One rib did the bow whilst the other the stern, then we swapped. We also found a little time during our dive interval to nip into Porth Dafarch and pick up the snorklers for a trip out of the bay.

Sunday the weather changed and south westerlies forced us to go over to the other side of the island. It was crazy because the weather turned around as we arrived. We couldn’t get the boats in so did a shore dive which unfortunately turned out pretty awful with bad viz. The weather was against us for the day and an attempt to dive later in Trearddur didn’t happen, the swells and waves crashing against the rocks was not ideal conditions! Weather was reported to be similar on Monday as was the case😝.

However it’s not all about diving and the BBQ on Saturday evening was fabulous, everybody enjoying a great social get together on the beach. Sunday night saw us all eating and drinking and enjoying a fantastic band at the outdoors centre which in some way took the sting out of the day’s disappointing dive.

It was great to see new club members participating, I hope they weren’t too disappointed and got something out of the weekend. Thank you, next time the weather will be kind to us, fingers crossed.
